TravelFrom REALLY came through!
Posted on a message board by Ann

Though we didn't use TravelFrom for ALL our Isla and Yucatan travel arrangements (or any other agency, as I like to do my own somewhat offbeat bookings and I speak/write Spanish) -- I have to say that they provided superb service and really came through when we got stuck in a truly awful situation in Tulum.

From the first day of our trip, after Mexicana informed us at the airport that our flight (that I booked myself) had been cancelled a month earlier -- TravelFrom came through with flying colors. We were to meet our shuttle service (and subsequent rental car service) at the airport at 6 a.m. upon our arrival on a redeye flight (the one that was cancelled). Mexicana let me use their phone to try to call Avicar in Cancun but no one was there (at midnight) and there was no answering machine -- and then I left a message with TravelFrom (at about 12 midnight Central time). The next day, when we finally arrived in Cancun five hours later than expected, Avicar was right there waiting for us, since TravelFrom had promptly communicated with them.

The service was great, including taking our daughter's booster seat off our hands and storing it for the time we were on Isla. We were then met at the ferry returning from Isla at the time of our choosing, and off we went for the rest of our trip.

Our TravelFrom hotel booking in Tulum started off badly -- we arrived about 5 p.m. and our supposed "garden view" room ended up a kitchen/restaurant view room. The next day I asked to be moved, and we were moved to a "family suite" -- beautiful, but at close to triple the price, near the beach (the actual "garden view" rooms were all rented out). But later in the day we were told we'd have to move back for the 3rd night, as nothing else was available. I e-mailed TravelFrom and Mark (the owner) responded immediately, and soon after Kathryn (our agent). They communicated immediately with the hotel owners and reservations' service, and the next thing we knew, we were given the choice of a cabana on the beach or garden room, no additional charge, including no charge for the second night in the family suite. So other than packing up and moving 2 times -- we had a great experience the 2nd and 3rd nights, thanks to TravelFrom. And I had almost booked the same reservation on my OWN, through the internet. I'm so glad I used TravelFrom and can't say enough good things about them -- makes me even inclined to start using travel agents more often again :-) at least, THEIR travel agency!

I used Executive via TravelFrom
Posted on a message board by Jo

I used TravelFrom and Kathryn (on this board) hooked me up very well. Executive is at the airport and at several places in the Cancun Hotel Zone. Get full coverage - MX settles accidents at the scene - and full coverage gets you all the $$ and, AND a lawyer - on the road!!!! Do you wanna deal with foreign citizens and police or have a lawyer do it?? Also, if you use an agency like TravelFrom, you have recourse should something go wrong. I recently read about an almost bad experience in Tulum. A call was made by the travelers to TravelFrom and BOOM - resolved with upgrades and a free night. G'luck!

Sharon,

Have I told you lately how great you are??? Your company and the service we get is exemplary. I know it may be cost prohibitive but just getting the great service we do is worth more than money. I've been telling all my friends of your wonderful company. You guys are definitely appreciated and just thought you needed to hear it.

Hi, Serena --

Had a grand time in NYC with our guys thanks to you. All our flights to NY went like clockwork. Everyone showed up when and where they were supposed to. Luggage too! Our Chas flight was a bit delayed, but not enough to miss the Charlotte connect. Going a bit early and leaving a bit late really kept us from hitting the "Christmas massacre" of Comair and US Air--though there was luggage piled high in all airports as we returned. Boys enjoyed flying together.

Novotel is a super little hotel, and was a perfect location to work out of. We really liked the European feel of the place, and the rooms were clean, fresh and good sized for NYC, hip decor.

We "did the city." Everything from Metropolitan Opera to Staten Island ferry, to Guggenheim, to Rockettes, to Blue Man Group, to MOMA, to Museum of National History, to Ground Zero, to Botanical Gardens, Tenement Museum -- we "cultured out". Also ate our way across the city, trying to hit a different country for every meal. Had best Cuban meal I've had since I was a kid in Tampa. It was our commitment to trying each country's national drinks that did us in. Brazil has a great national drink...

Metro pass for the subway was the best deal around. Cabs reasonable. Dinner prices comparable to Charleston restaurants, even in city center, but, found breakfast costs exorbitant. Strange.

Thanks for your patience with us on the NY trip. It will be one we remember for a long time.

All the best -- Deb

Sharon,

We lack words to express our thanks for what you did to make our cruise with Julia & Jim so memorable. Everything you prepared was exceptional; the Carribe Blu Hotel (Jeannie was most gracious), the glass bottom boat was beautiful, and the trip around the peninsula with Manuel was out of this world! We especially enjoyed the Mayan ruins and La Playa del Carmen.

You, along with Julia and Jim, made our 50th anniversary cruise wonderful. Thanks a million!

Kathryn, Sharon,

Thank you BOTH so much for the speedy response...I sure wish there was some Travel Agent Award I could give to the both you. You both just rock !!!

Please tell me who your manager is - I want to tell him/her that you ladies are the absolute best in the world. I have never worked with agents so diligent, accommodating and patient with their customers. Kudos and hats off to you both!!!! You much deserve a big fat $$ raise !!!!!!

Eternally grateful !!

Debbie

Side Note: Debbie was not aware that Sharon is an owner of the company.

From a phone conversation between two of our customers, Tom and Ken:

"Hey, Ken, do you think it would be OK if I told people about this company? I mean, I know that they're your private agency and all, and you told me about them, but do you think it would be OK if I told people about them?"

Many Thanks To Kathryn AND Sharon at TravelFrom.

My Father in Law left his nice leather jacket in the car that took us from the airport to the ferry dock. I contacted Kathryn and she immediately sent me phone numbers, emailed the company, and followed up with me several times. We were able to retrieve his nice coat in no time thanks to Kathryn!

I would also like to give props to Sharon. When our flight was cancelled last week, she called on Saturday immediately and made sure we were taken care of for the next available flight.

These ladies are wonderful, the transfers they organize have made our families visits so comfortable, especially those who don't travel much.

I will always use these gals... they are the best. While I am building a home on the island I have erratic and last minute arrangements that they always accomodate without a hitch. Thanks gals!

Follow Ups:

Karyn: Great aren't they.. They do the same for us.. move heaven and earth when we need it. I have always found Sharon to be one of the most professional and informed agents I have ever met.

Karl: They have always been like this!!!

Fred: And I third Karl's motion

who to contact at travelfrom
Posted on a message board by Deb

I have read of some of you dealing with certain people from travelfrom.com. Can someone give me contact information and names for who to ask for, please.

Thanks

Follow Ups:

JD: Contact Kathryn. She is very professional and will go out of her way to help you in any way she can. I just booked a November trip with her and travelfrom.com for my wife and I and our two teenage children. We got very good airfare and hotel rates and transfers directly from Kathryn with no hassle.

Robert: Cut & paste their Isla specific site to your browser.... http://www.travelfrom.com/isla/goisla.htm and either Mark or Sharon or Katherine will be happy to help. If I had to pick a favorite, it would have to be Katherine but that's purely personal & if I knew Mark & Sharon as well as I do Kath (having not yet personally met any of the three), it might well end up a 3-way tie.....

travelfrom.com--recommendations?
Posted on a message board by Kim

Anyone have any experiences with travelfrom.com? How did things work out? So far our arrangements are going well, but we haven't taken our trip yet. If anybody has any information, I'd appreciate it.

Follow Ups:

Doug: Good folks, great service, two thumbs up!!!

Jan: Highly recommend!

Les: I agree... We have booked through them twice now, and they got us the cheapest flights we have ever had!! Sharon and Mark are a pleasure to deal with.

Eric: ***** (Five Star) and i would give them more if possible, because as far as I know they are the only people who can arrange travel, transfer, and hotel packages to Isla.. I'm going in August, and they even lined up a rental cell phone for us to keep for emergencies while we are there (we both have aged parents). Also I am a travel shopping junkie.. I spent two months researching this trip, pricing everywhere on the net, and found my absolute lowest price. I called Sharon at 1:00, told her EXACTLY what I wanted, and Kathryn called back at 4:30 the same afternoon with a total price $200 LESS than what I had found!!!!! Thanks, TravelFrom.com!!!!!

Carl: straight up people!!!!! sometimes they can give you better rates than what shows up as the final price from the airlines. wouldn't think of using someone else......

Connie: Mark and Sharon are great people and the rates they found were the cheapest I saw anywhere.... They know the area and will spend all the time you need to feel comfortable with your trip. The hotel, restaurant recommendations, transfers, etc were the best!

Phil: I recently booked through travelfrom.com, and was very happy with their service. They just returned from Playa del Carmen, and Isla Mujeres. They spoke with all of the hotels in the area, and know what to expect from each. I would recommend them to all.

..................................................................................................................

Just wanted to let you all know and especially Kathryn that all of us had a great time on Isla Mujeres. It was different but had a great time. We were there, though, during record-breaking rain fall, so that was fun and of course an experience. But this trip forced us to relax and stay relaxed. Probably would not stay at that hotel so much. I guess I have been spoiled by the corporate hotels. But it was beautiful!! I mean we got some awesome pictures and really had a blast. Thank again for all the help and that tik-n-xic fish really is to die for. Again thank you for all your help you made us feel like family taking good care of us.

Thanks again!!!

Janine at www.travelfrom.com - amazing travel agency for Isla trips
Posted on a message board by Paula

I had such a pleasant experience booking my trip to Isla with Janine at travelfrom.com.

I read the Isla info page and found their travel service and information. We were planning a last minute trip to Isla and were not able to find an affordable price and needed help with accommodations. Janine responded immediately, and found us everything!

It made it so easy. I was stressed trying to contact everyone about places to stay, air, transfers, etc. After that one phone call all I had to do was lay back and she found several options for us! We will arrive Dec. 18...now if only she could come and help me pack! Just wanted to share the word.

Side Note: Sadly, Janine is no longer with TravelFrom.com

..................................................................................................................

Just a note to tell you how great a trip we had! The weather was perfect (well, maybe a "little" hot, but there is always the water!). We had a few glitches, but what trip doesn't? I'm going to tell you only to possibly help future travelers, NOT as a complaint. We were well pleased. The phone.. TELL EVERYONE TO READ THE DIRECTIONS, lol. Well, I AM a man. we spent 2 days running around trying to get bilinguals to see if we had a message before I saw in black and white that there would be a "missed call" signal if I had one! We did made some friends that way, lol.

The room.. we got room 309 at Posada, which I THINK is in the older section, and in the part that has not been remodeled. BUT, the room was so great: big, great view, end (no noise), that we decided to just keep it anyway! I will request it next time. Some people could be pissed, so warn them in advance, especially if they have never been there.

LYSH... we went to make a donation, only to find they were closed for the summer.. oh, well.. an excuse for another trip!!

AND, I brought a little friend home with me .... yep, the revenge! I was very careful, and it was more like intestinal flu, so I could have gotten it on the plane or something. My wife blamed the fresh-squeezed OJ I got from the street vendor, but I watched and could see no possible contamination. Oh yeah, the sunset pic is from Casa-O's dock, and I promise the colors have not been enhanced. Who says you have to go to Sergio's to see the sunset? Thanks for a great vacation. We'll be back!!!

Eric

PS Please pass this message on to Sharon (or forward to her) as I did not save her addy.

Thanks for the help. Your agency has been great to work with--this is our 3rd trip to Isla--despite a minor glitch, it's been the easiest to plan--with great help from Sandra & you.

Hi Donna, I'm sorry I didn't get back to you last week. I just wanted to let you know that our Isla trip was absolutely wonderful! The hotel was great - the shuttle was as smooth as could be, and all 12 of us were just thrilled with the whole thing. I hope to do business with you all again.

Thank you for everything,

Pat & group

Mark,

Our first trip to Isla Mujeres was WONDERFUL. My gosh, I even used my 30 word Spanish vocabulary. To begin with, we took one of those wonderful big yellow express ferry boats, followed by Mario a bicycle man who hauled our two tons of bags to the Playa Media Luna. We stayed there for four days and then moved to be with some friends. We didn't stay long, only two days, because of the location and the day-trippers brought in to eat lunch there. We returned to the city and enjoyed eating out at lots of places. We were on Isla for 10 days.

All in All, it was a wonderful experience. We will go back again and will contact you for your services. Next time we would like to expand our visit to 14 days, but hope to use a charter air service. Will that be a problem?

Hope the business is going well,

Ray

..................................................................................................................

Dear Kathryn,

I just wanted to say "Thank You" for doing a superb job of booking our Isla trip. Everything was in perfect order -- from our documents, to our private transfers and wonderful cabana room. We, too, fell in love with the island and hope to return there many times. When we do, of course, we shall book through you. I shall recommend you to our friends and family, too.

Many Thanks,

Regina & Glenn

..................................................................................................................

Hi Kathryn,

Thank you so much for all that you did to get the vacation package together. Everything went without a hitch. The shuttle service picked us up just fine and were waiting for us when we returned. The Media Luna was better than I imagined and we were both very pleased with the room, view, location, and services. Villa Rolandi was awesome and I would recommend this place to anyone. They knew who we were when we walked in and served us Mimosa's on the spot. The rooms were incredible, the view was outstanding, the pool was awesome, the service and food was excellent, and the beach and water were clean and crystal clear. We absolutely loved Rolandi. I do have one complaint about though: when I checked out, I noticed that I was charged for maid services. Each charge was different for each day and I can not figure out what or why there were maid charges. Is this normal? Jesus, Pablo, and Hilario were all very nice and provided us with top notch service.

We loved Isla and we plan on going back annually to celebrate our anniversary. Thanks again Kathryn. Maybe I'll see you on the island sometime.

Stuart

Kathryn,

It's all good, and I appreciate your professionalism, which seems to be in short supply in almost every field these days.

Mark

..................................................................................................................

I wanted to thank you for your efforts and advice; it has saved our honeymoon. I have bragged about your company to everyone, it was nice having a travel agency look out for the travelers interest. I was shocked when you first called to fill me in on the information you had on MIA, it is unfortunate that so many companies do not take care of their customers after the sale, but you do and we appreciate it.

Mark

..................................................................................................................

Hola Amiga,

Everything went well as planned. Thank You again for everything, it was awesome. I gave your name and number to my brother. I think he'll be wanting to book something for my parents. Ok, thanks again and I'll talk to you when the next adventure comes around.

Adios,

Jose

..................................................................................................................

We're home sad to say! Getting ready for Thanksgiving Dinner at our house will keep me busy and maybe I'll stop brooding about having left such a beautiful place. We can't thank you enough for all your expertise on Isla Mujeres. Everything was wonderful!!! If you would have asked my husband on the first day we arrived, he would have said "get me out of here", but remember we had never been to Mexico and we had some culture shock to deal with. By day two he was "Islanized" and he loves the place. We are convinced you set us up in the perfect hotel. A little scary walking to it late at night, but we managed to "get over it". Well, I don't have to tell you how great the views, the aromas, and the sights are. We never had a bad meal the whole time we were there. Casa O's was excellent and we love Lynn and Faustino. Chile Locos was great fun too, what a character that guy is. Sunset Grill was our favorite guacamole and chips place (and the great hot sauce..would I love to know how to make that).

Just not enough time to hit all the places we wanted to. Faynes, Gomar's, Jacks, Picus Cockteleria, Pinguinos, Sergio's on the Beach, Play Lancheros, Villa Rolandi's...we hit a lot of them. Speaking of Villa Rolandi, it is spectacular, but I would not want to stay all the way at that end of the island for the whole time, but it was a lovely place...very impressive!! My husband and I want to go back next year...same time! Weather was perfection!

Also, my daughter and son-in-law may join us so we might want both the king suites. If you see any fantastic deals on airfare to Cancun and a good deal on the hotel, please contact us. My husband also wanted me ask you what other "great places" you would recommend traveling to. I am sure you have lots of favorites! Thank you for everything!

Joyce & Wayne

..................................................................................................................

Dear Kathryn and Sharon,

Just wanted to express my thanks for your professional travel services. Our trip to Isla and Playa Media Luna went off without a hitch other than the misplaced documents which were quickly rectified, thanks to you.

We really enjoyed our two drivers from Avicar. Our plane landed early, but they were already there waiting for another customer and quickly adjusted to provide our transport. Mauricio got us to Gran Puerto just before the 1:30 ferry left. What a nice guy. He is working so hard on his English.

Manual is very nice too. Really an easy going person and so fun to talk with. He showed up right on time and helped us with our bags. He knows a lot about the area and enjoys sharing. One takes a gamble with the taxi drivers. Sometimes one lucks out and gets a pleasant driver who will visit a little. A few times we've gotten drivers who respond with very little conversation. Avicar was very professional and pleasant.

Thanks again, Mike and Diane

She also had this to say after I asked her if she had any real concerns or suggestions.

Sharon,

We had a wonderful time in Playa last weekend! The hotel was beautiful, the service was great, and the water was perfect!

There were several weddings there while we were there, but that was okay. Like I said, it was wonderful. Next time I will be taking my kids. I saw and spoke with several of the children that were staying at the Porto Real, and they were having a wonderful time.

Well, thank you for all of your help and suggestions. It was a nice getaway, and I'll definitely want to do it again!

Jamey

..................................................................................................................

Serena,

Thanks for the card and well wishes. We had the best time we ever had on a vacation. It was perfect. I can't begin to tell you how beautiful it was there. And the people were wonderful. The complex was fantastic-lots to see and do. The location of our room was the best, right across from the swim up bar, close to the beach buffet, right off of the beach. We went on two outside excursions and had a great time. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to go to a tropical island. My husband got into it so much that he was still saying, "Gracias", for about a week after we got back. That says a lot because he knew no Spanish.

Thanks for your help and I'll be in touch because we are thinking of making this an annual trip to go somewhere each week around x-mas. Next year we are thinking of taking the kids somewhere. Maybe Cancun. Not sure yet.

Cathy

..................................................................................................................

Hi Sandra, You asked me to drop you a line when we got back from Tulum to give you some feedback, so here it is.

First of all, AVICAR was terrific, the people there were great, Paul, who I think manages the place told us where to turn off the highway to get to CC. The car was close to new, in great condition and although small (they all are) was certainly more than adequate for our needs.

Cabanas Copal best asset is the staff. They were ALL extremely friendly and helpful and even the ones whose English was limited were great (we speak no Spanish).

We just wanted to veg out, lay on the beach and swim. The restaurant takes pesos and there is an ATM at the bank in town.

You can't tell from the web sight but there are 47 cabanas at copal, they're back to back, the bathrooms adjoin and are really quite close together. Even so, it hardly seemed as if anyone was around. They have a great beach, 1/4 mile of sand, no rocks, and it never had more than 15-20 people on it. The paths to the cabanas were a little treacherous, especially at night, some lighting would have helped. Thank god we had flashlights. We're in our late 50's and it was okay but I don't think I'd want to send a 70 yr. old down there unless they were in shape. The accommodations are really quite primitive and basic but the bed had a good firm mattress and although there is no hot water in the sink, we always had hot water in the shower.

The food in the restaurant was very good. We had some very well prepared seafood dinners there also. We ate out a few nights and had very good food at 2 places down the road (walking distance), Zamas & Piedras Escondidas.

We had a GREAT time and enjoyed it immensely!!!

Thank you so much

Jeff & Ann

Kathryn, it's been awhile already but I wanted to let you know that we had an absolutely wonderful time at Azulik. What a great place! We enjoyed every bit of it. Many thanks for making all the arrangements.

Mike & Penny

..................................................................................................................

Hi Serena-

Thanks for the e-mail last night. Yes our flight was delayed. We finally made it into Detroit around 7:30 but by the time we got thru customs and got our luggage it was around 9 pm...long day yesterday. The flight attendant welcomed us to Alaska! We came home to 12" of snow on the ground and ZERO degree weather. Boy were we ready to turn around an go back. When we left Cancun it was 85 degrees.

I want to sincerely thank you for all of your help in handling the arrangements for the trip. Azulik is just as the web site says it is. No hidden surprises. It was very quiet and serene. All the plans from the rental car to the cabaña to the sites in the area was just exactly as discussed. The food was good and the weather was great. The only problem we had was that it was never discussed as to the directions to Azulik. We picked up the rental car at the airport and drove around Cancun for a little bit then headed towards Tulum. Sharon told us to stop in Puerto Morales at Peliconos Restaurant, which we did. Great place to eat. Then we continued to Tulum, drove thru the town and out the other side with no idea where Azulik was located. Well we drove for about 10 minutes and then decided to turn around. When we got back into Tulum we stopped to ask directions. But that didn't help us either, because we couldn't understand the language. We finally drove back to the beginning of town and by chance found the right road to Azulik.

We visited the Tulum Ruins, I got to swim with the dolphins at Xel-ha, and went shopping at Playa Del Carmen. We had a wonderful time and we will have many happy memories of our 30th anniversary vacation. We will probably plan to go back in the future. (Tom says TOMORROW!)

Please share this e-mail with Sharon, (as I do not have her e-mail address). Thanks Sharon for the suggestions, they were great.

Thanks again...

From two very cold Michigan beach bums,

Tom and Kathy

Hi Mark and Sharon,

Thank you so much for everything. I had the best weekend there! Still need to develop the photos... Like you said: true paradise. The ocean was so warm and the food was excellent! Had fish almost every night. The service etc. outstanding, and this will NOT be by last trip over there!!! Thank you once again that everything was so short notice - the bus, by the way, took only an hour!!! So it is really easy to get from one place to the other - this was an introductory trip - next time will be longer as there is so much to explore etc.....THANK YOU!!!! (I'm still not back - literally...and NYC is 50 degrees...want to go back!!)

Robin

..................................................................................................................

Dear Mark and Sharon,

We are back from paradise at Cabanas Copal. It was wonderful, the perfect spot for some R & R. Everything went without a hitch--from flights to our stay, to getting back to the airport at the ungodly hour of 4:30am. We both want to thank you for all your help in making this vacation happen. In fact, I gave your name to a number of people there to contact for their next trip. Doesn't hurt to have some free advertising, does it?

Came back to NYC just before our big snowstorm which looks beautiful right now. Can't believe we were in a little tropical paradise just a few days ago. That's what makes traveling so amazing. By the way, we had dinner most nights at Zamas but went to Gringo Dave's (on the way to Tulum ruins) one night and the setting was far more magical and the food was very good. All in all, a lovely time. Cliff and I (we are just friends) both said it was a perfect vacation but the setting is so romantic that we're planning to head back some time this year with our partners who couldn't take the vacation time last week. So, we'll both be in touch again with you.

All the best and a very happy holiday and prosperous New Year to you both.

Gail

..................................................................................................................

Hi, Sandra,

We got back yesterday from Sunscape Tulum and everything went very well. They met all of our requests you put in for us (Thank you).

The only little glitch was that they gave our kids (15 and 17) a little kids room with very bright primary colors and little tyke furniture. Our kids weren't happy with the room but the front desk people gave us a few options which we offered to our kids and they decided to stay in this room instead of having to walk farther or move 4 nights into our stay. So it was handled very well. If we stayed here again, we would request the 100 building again but not the little kid room.

Food, drinks, service were great. Entertainment wasn't the best we've had but passable. The resort beach is so much quieter than the Playacar area beach. No jet skis or parasailing with all the engine noise. The rocky beach was great for snorkeling and the swimming part although small was big enough. Our kids loved the trampoline in the water. I could go on longer so if someone else is interested in this resort, I would be happy to give them more information, just give them my email address.

Please put us on your mailing lists for bargains to this area. We would be interested when you hear of good package deals from Denver. We would stay at Sunscape Tulum again but I think we will want to try one of the other big resorts like the Palladium or the Bahia Principe. Please keep in touch and thank you for your fine service.

Gaylyn

..................................................................................................................

Hi Kathryn:

We are home and I wanted to let you know how things went. The trip was absolutely wonderful and we want to thank you very much for all your help and information. No problems whatsoever and all things ran smoothly.

Cancun Valet is terrific - would use them again in a heartbeat, always on time, courteous and also very helpful with info., etc.

The condo in Akumal was very nice - lovely quiet location and the view was beautiful. Great snorkeling right out front and at the lagoon as well. Had lots of wonderful meals at the various restaurants there. Went to tulum ruins and town and also went to Oscar and Lalo's beach for a day.

Puerto Morelos was also very nice - quaint and old-fashioned in some ways. The hotel was fine, although you do get a smell of some sort, but I guess that is common in some areas. Lots of nice places to eat there, and the beach is nice right in front of the hotel. My brother and sister in law enjoyed both places very much.

Isla Mujeres was probably my favorite place out of the three. It's hard to explain but I'm sure you know what I mean about the people, area, and everything - just loved it. Posada del Mar was fine - great location and the beach across the street was also very nice - we often went there as well as north beach. Suites Los Arcos was also very nice - very quiet even though right in town. We had a room at the back and liked it very much. Did get to Chili Locos for the pepper stuffed with shrimp and it was wonderful. Went to many, many different places in town, did the Avalon speel and got 2 days of golf cart along with tickets to Garrafon, so really did see pretty much all of the island. Stopped at many places along the way around the island both trips.

Did not mean to turn this into a trip report, but did want you to know how much we enjoyed our trip. Again, thanks so much. Hope to be contacting you next year too.

Glad to see from the board that all is well with you.

Emily

Dear Sandra,

Some feedback on Isla Holbox and the little 'hotelito' on the beach -- Casa las Tortugas -- that you recommended. Both the island and the accommodations were excellent. We normally stay on Isla Mujeres, but the fact that it was 'full' this year was a blessing in disguise, as we discovered Holbox. It's just two hours from the Cancun airport to Chiquilla, and the transfer with Avicar worked very well... we had a very friendly and informative driver named Manuel. Then a short hop by ferry to the Isla.

How to describe Isla Holbox? Well, it's basically slow-motion paradise.... long white sandy beaches, with a few fishing boats dotted around, a few hotelitos, and a lot of very laidback people (locals and a few tourists). Fantastic kite-surfing (though we didn't get into that, owing to accompanying small kids!), and plenty of nature walks along the beach. The town has an internet cafe and a few restaurants. But this is a place to let go, read books, lie in hammocks, swim, drink and eat. Perfect for a week's respite from grey, cold Washington DC.

Casa las Tortugas has wonderful Italian owners - Greta and her daughter Francesca, and is right on the beach. Well-priced, with characterful rooms and excellent breakfasts (perfect cappuccino!). Thoroughly recommended.

Thanks so much too, Sandra, for, as before, your excellent organization of our trip.
